ATPD police raided and arrested “Mae Pui” and “Mae Ja,” owners of Khanom Karaoke shops, for illegal child prostitution, while rescuing two human trafficking victims. The 15-year-old victim revealed that in just over a month of work, she had to service up to 70 clients.
Today (June 28), Pol. Maj. Gen. Songkrod Krikrittaya, Commander of the ATPD, ordered Pol. Col. Alongkot Khotchakaew, Superintendent of Sub-division 5, ATPD, Pol. Lt. Col. Kroek Sanosamniang, Deputy Superintendent of Sub-division 5, ATPD, and Pol. Lt. Col. Natthapol Daowiang, Inspector of Sub-division 5, ATPD, to lead a force to arrest Ms. Wanwisa, also known as “Mae Pui,” aged 37, and Ms. Rungnapha, also known as “Mae Ja,” aged 49. Evidence seized included 2,400 baht in banknotes used in the sting operation and a notebook recording the children’s work assignments. They were apprehended at two karaoke shops in Khanom District, Nakhon Si Thammarat Province.
Officials had received complaints that the karaoke shops belonging to the two suspects were secretly bringing girls under the age of 18 to sell sexual services. Therefore, they collaborated with officials from the Nakhon Si Thammarat Ministry of Social Development and Human Security (MSDHS) to plan a sting operation to purchase services from children at both shops before identifying themselves and arresting the two suspects as mentioned.
Additionally, they rescued “Ms. A” (pseudonym), aged 15, and “Ms. B” (pseudonym), aged 17, victims of human trafficking. From questioning, Ms. A stated that she had been working at the shop for about a month and a few days, and had already accepted 70 assignments. The price was 3,000 baht per time, but she had to split half with Mae Pui every time.
As for Ms. B, she stated that she had worked at the shop for about 15 days but had already accepted over 40 assignments. Her price was 2,500 baht, and she similarly split half of the fee with Mae Ja.
Upon interrogation, Ms. Wanwisa and Ms. Rungnapha confessed. Therefore, they were charged with: “Human trafficking by seeking benefit from prostitution; acting as a procurer or inducing any person for the purpose of indecency; and being the owner of a prostitution business, caretaker, or manager of a prostitution establishment, etc.” before being sent to the inquiry officials of Sub-division 6, ATPD, for legal proceedings. As for Ms. A and Ms. B, a victim identification process for human trafficking was conducted, and they were sent to the Protection and Occupational Development Center for Victims of Trafficking (Baan Kredtrakarn) in Nonthaburi Province for further protection.
